Green Moist Forest
I'm getting so trained in vistas, that I almost didn't know what to photograph in the depths of the forest. I miss it though. My skin misses it more.
oops! things go a bit sideways for a week.
I accidentally took a week off from the blog. I did so well this year that it was the only one off. With the holidays, travelling, seeing friends and family... well... it just took a back seat to life. Honestly though, not the only thing to be a hair sideways the last few days. Must be some queer phase.

Finding Peace in the Mountains
I would not have known this before I lived here, so near the Ruby Mountains- but a person can find peace in the mountains. Even desert mountains. Or perhaps, especially desert mountains. Can't beat the moments you find.

Play of light
I'm sure it's just an affect of the camera lens, but I love the photos where my camera captures a play on light. Always puts me in a good mood.

The Mountains
First time since I lived here that I braved a hike in the mountains. Really stunning. Didn't get as many photos as I usually do, but they convey how wonderful the day was.

Dark to Dark is here!
We are in the moment of winter where we wake up in the dark, go to work in the dark. Go home from work in the dark. And dang it is cold too, so I just want to curl up with a paint brush and forget my worries... and my work.

Chimpmunk Playing Waldo, poorly
One of my rare, decent wildlife shots. Clearly wildlife photography is not my forte. One of my friends at work shoots a lot of wildlife videos. It is definitely a specialty.

What a Week!
Zoomed this last weekend, so I apologize if my postings are unusually eclectic.. even for me. I did write a long essay about what a pain Reno is to visit. The anti-tourist write up. December also seems a good month to be too busy...
One quick comment. I plan for the fact that our local delivery people don't deliver on Saturday. To my chagrin, they delivered this Saturday... I have to say, I am pretty happy about how safe this community is! I mean, here was this expensive art printer on my porch, and no one took it. I want to hug my neighbors. What good people out here.
ciao!

the Mountains
Mountains, like the ocean, are one of the places to go and wander around and remember who you are. Nothing profound in that.

Life
It is a bit fascinating, the lethargy that comes upon me when I'm unwell. I was concerned that I had vitamin d deficiency, again... but it is just a minor cold that is slowly working out of my system. Makes me feel like minor tasks are herculean, and I slow down to reflect. To excess.
I've been reading Mark Twain, his self-biography, which is unedited and therefore far more rambling that is easy to read. One of the short essays is about his landlady in Italy, who was trying to screw him over for money and property. His wife was quite ill, and this woman was very willing to do her harm to her own advantage. He is humorous in his hatred for this woman. There is something profound about Mark Twain hating someone. It makes me feel human.
The ideals a person tries to live up to, not hating, coping with those who are worth hating. Is having character a figment of light, sifting through the window and barely visible when our backs are turned?

the Road Less Travelled is Less Travelled for a Reason
I'm thankful to be on the road less travelled. But it does seem to be a heck of a lot more difficult!
Happy Thanksgiving!
My lord, two days of cooking are quite something. I'm exhausted, lol and just about to get going again.
I'm sending out my best thoughts to everyone. Have a wonderful day!

Draft of a Painting For Friend
I've been working, albeit slowly, on this painting for a good friend of mine. It is of the train ride in Atlas Shrugged. Still a draft, but coming along.

the Eye
I love it when interesting shapes become visible in clouds. The other day I saw an enormous eye. It was too dark to get a photo.

Finding Cheer?
The never ending pressure to turn a blind eye to a sacrificial lamb... slaughtered while the subalpha canines piss all over themselves hiding from the noose.
Where's my integrity now?

Early Morning, Ruby Valley
I got up super early this morning to snap a couple pictures of dawn. I have a lot of great photos, some I think are stunning. It was an amazing morning for a drive too.
