Winter Night Sky

I’ve been posting less- or not at all- with the advancement of AI. I feel weird having art posted that AI can steal. I recognize I’m a generally unknown — or completely unknown — artist, but I had already found people stealing my work before AI. Isn’t that amazing?

This piece though- I need closure with it! It all started when a local gallery made a call for artwork that referenced a winter’s night. I thought I’d take a go at it and began this multi-month journey (I’m way past the submission deadline).

The biggest struggle was the paint itself — turning this little project into a battle against media and materials. I don’t love how the paint looks upon close inspection, but there are still beautiful passages as I try to communicate the feeling of seeing mountains at night — the absoluteness of the earth and the strange lighting of snow and sky.

Hopefully you can feel what I was getting to!

Abstract Beach

I'm working on a series of beach abstracts. Thought I'd share - this isn't done. Many layers in and still going!

Still Working Orchids

Still working on the Orchids painting.  It's getting closer, but not quite there. Took me awhile to admit I had to let the ferns go. I've turned them into more of a silver lilac flower, except it does quite look done. And in fact, dont show up well in the photo at all. I do love the colors though.

Orchids

Still working on the orchids for this piece. The orchids I think are starting to look gorgeous.  Not so sure about the ferns.... May need a little more work.

Tree of Hawai'i

Simple little painting of a tree, testing it for a bigger piece. But I like how it turned out.

Figured I'd wait awhile to publish any further art inspired by Hawai'i.

Underwater piece

Been playing around with this painting that is meant to be fun and tropical. It's not quite done but I'm not sure what it needs!

Pacific Ocean in Winter

This piece is meant to be the ocean in winter, looking down when clamming or just goofing off on a warm winter day. I think it's one of my best pieces.

Ocean, PNW

An attempt to show ocean... feels almost like stone even, but is pretty enough to try again and leave this piece alone.

Swantown Marina, South Sound PNW Painting 2

This is my very first oil painting. I used the acrylic as a way to try out techniques for painting the painting, which it turns out that acrylic is so different from oil that I'm not sure if it was helpful or not. It was especially interesting to note the difference in colors that came out, probably largely because of the way I looked at the painting, and getting used to the different media.

Dark Ocean Waves PNW

I've been trying to get the flavor of the ocean. The paintings are not as successful as I would hope, but, this one at least starts to get the feeling of it-if a bit dark.

A Bit Of Summer

I took another run at the Dahlia painting from last summer. Here is the finished piece.

I love the additional depth.

Winter at Swantown, South Sound PNW Painting 1

This is the first of two painting of the marine. This one is in acrylic. Turns out painting boats is incredibly difficult.

Ornaments

A little bit of holiday fun, some ornaments my mom and I created. I'll do a couple posts on these. It turns out it's more work than one would imagine. Be sure to get florotel- that's how the paint sticks to the plastic.

PNW Fall- Painting Some 'Shroomz

I am not sure if the dry painting is going to hold the image, so this is another painting that may move from this moment. This one is so fun.

The original photo:

Also, my husband says we have too many paintings! LOL.

PNW Fall

Having a little trouble photographing this. I definitely need better lighting. Still thoroughly enjoying pours... they are tough though!

And, a bit of a close up to show the depth.

Zen of the Thermal at Yellowstone

I like how this turned out. For some reason the photos I took from when I visited Yellowstone didn't really turn out, but this tells the story. It was really beautiful to see the water, with basically no one else around. A great trip, and classic visit to the mountain west.

Commission for a ... Bathroom

My mom picked a very demanding wallpaper for the guest bathroom at my parents house, and has been struggling to decorate the room, so I wanted to paint something that would calm the space down a bit.

This is very abstract, but it really seems to go quite well in the bathroom. When I thought about the design I realized it the room needed a very specific red. I also thought about a relief of vegetation from another world or from the tropics as the style.

And with this second photo, you can tell I'm not a home-style expert. Though, I suppose that might have been given away some time ago.
